Shirley Kumar

Shirley Kumar is a Law Clerk at Eliav Legal, where she supports the firm’s healthcare, technology and regulatory practices. Her work focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital health and intellectual property, with a particular interest in helping innovative and early-stage companies navigate complex compliance frameworks. She assists with Fictitious Name Permit (FNP) applications and has been involved in reviewing and drafting compliance policies for telemedicine clients. Ms. Kumar graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Master in Laws (LL.M.) in Technology Law and holds an LL.B. (Honors) with American Law from the University of Nottingham. Having studied across the U.S., U.K., and India, she brings a comparative perspective to issues involving AI regulation, data governance and cross-border health and technology matters. 

Ms. Kumar’s prior experience includes legal and policy work with a human rights organization examining climate-driven migration in Small Island Developing States, supporting a health-tech company on HIPAA Security Rule developments and IP strategy and assisting in representation of vulnerable clients in immigration relief matters under VAWA and U-Visa frameworks. She has also contributed to corporate and regulatory matters at Indian corporate law firms including work on Mergers and Acquisitions, international licensing and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection regime.
